Homosexuals Push for Same-Sex Marriage After Sodomy Ruling

Hours after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down a Texas sodomy statute, homosexual activists proclaimed their next target would be to overturn a host of laws they view as discriminatory, including those that limit marriage to opposite-sex couples.

Story

Ruling Bolsters Roe V. Wade?

The Supreme Court ruling upholding "freedom of thought, belief, expression, and certain intimate conduct" - including homosexual conduct - bolsters a key pillar of the court's 1973 abortion ruling, the Christian Science Monitor reported.

--Christian Science Monitor--

I disagree with this assessment. Most importantly, abortions are not generally performed in bedrooms, so "keeping the government out of bedrooms" is a "red herring" where abortion is concerned. Also, it is now apparent that the Supreme Court has no bounds on what it can rule on - nothing is safe from their meddling. It's only a matter of whose ideology controls the court. - Ed.

Conservatives Call Affirmative Action Rulings 'Disgusting' and 'Disappointing'

The U.S. Supreme Court blew its chance to end discriminatory practices in college admissions, according to disappointed conservatives reacting to Monday's ruling that upholds the use of racial preferences.

--CNSNews.com--

This was a dangerous decision! The court in effect ruled that "diversity" is a "compelling state interest" that can trump the fourteenth amenendment. The implications are frightening, particularly since "diversity" has no set definition. Colleges consider a faculty that is 95% "flaming liberal" sufficiently diverse, so it's obvious that a diversity proportional to the general population is not what they're looking for. So it's possible that a state college could rule that in the interests of "diversity," all classes must have equal numbers of Christians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, agnostics and atheists. Does that sound far fetched? It isn't when "diversity" is considered a "compelling state interest." - Ed.

New York Tobacco Debate Still Smoldering With Few Satisfied

New York smokers, who already pay $1.50 per pack to both the city and the state in tobacco taxes, are facing additional burdens if they want to light up.

--CNSNews.com--

This whole tobacco issue is a great example of "liberal" hypocrisy. They want hard drugs legalized so addicts won't have to resort to crime to afford their drugs, but they think that astronomical taxes on tobacco will cause addicts to kick the habit. Then there are those ads that tell parents to talk to their kids about not smoking, and then go on to say, "They'll listen." But if anyone suggests that parents talk to their kids about not having sex, saying, "They'll listen," that person would be branded as some kind of idiot. - Ed.

Court Says 'Too Late' to Reopen 'Roe'

A district court ruled it's "too late" for the former plaintiff "Jane Roe," Norma McCorvey, to reopen the landmark 1973 U.S. Supreme Court case that struck down all state laws restricting abortion.

--WorldNetDaily.com--

This seems to be a "Catch-22" situation. The premise of the motion to reopen is based significantly on new information on fetal development. So according to this judge, the more we learn about it, the more "too late" it becomes. Totally ridiculous! It shows clearly why Democrats are so set on blocking all judicial appointments that don't meet their pro-abortion litmus test. - Ed.

Pro-lifers Barred From Parade

After seven years of participation, pro-life students were barred from a community parade in Michigan because "issues" were considered inappropriate for such an event.

--WorldNetDaily.com--

Don't be tempted to compare this controversy to the homosexual activists' attempts to march in NYC's St. Patrick's Day Parade. First, the NYC parade is organized by a church, while this parade is, apparently, sponsored bye a "community" group. Second, it's hard to argue that the pro-life message doesn't fit with the "cherries, children and fun" theme - what is the pro-life message if it isn't about children? - Ed.

Woman 'Bribed' To Keep Her Baby, Abortion Activists Say

In what they called a new and disturbing development by the pro-life movement, pro-abortion campaigners in Australia have accused a pro-lifer of offering a couple money to call off a planned abortion.

--CNSNews.com--

Let's pretend that those who talk about "reproductive rights" (a.k.a. "pro-abortion") are really interested in reproductive rights. If that were the case, they'd be interested in protecting the most basic "reproductive right," i.e., the "right" to have children. Many women are induced to have abortions because they feel (or are persuaded) that they cannot afford to support the child, not because they don't want the child. In such a case, supporting the woman's "reproductive rights" would entail supporting the decision she wants to make, not the decision she is "forced" by economic circumstances to make.

In the story, it doesn't say why the couple initially decided on abortion, but judging from the outcome, I think it's safe to assume that their economic circumstances played a big role. When they were offered money, they were offered support for the reproductive decision they apparently wanted to make in the first place. The irony is that the pro-life activist is being criticized for supporting reproductive rights, and the criticism is coming from people who claim to support "reproductive rights." - Ed.

With the European Union having its own president, parliament, courts, military and currency (and by 2006, its own constitution), the political reality is that each state in the EU is becoming equivalent to a state in the United States. Would the U.N. entertain a proposal to give the United States 50 votes in the general assembly, and several votes on the security council? I seriously doubt it. - Ed.
