Hillary Touts Presidential Bid

New York Sen. Hillary Clinton is openly encouraging speculation that she will run for president next year, while continuing to deny that she has any interest in throwing her hat into the ring.

McClintock Shut Out of Voter's Guide

California Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom McClintock, who trails only Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante in opinion polls, is barred from publishing a position statement in the voter's guide for the Oct. 7 recall election because of a selection he inadvertently made when he filled out his entry form.

--WorldNetDaily.com--

I guess the “letter of the law” only applies when it serves to hurt a Republican. When the situation was Lautenberg replacing Toricelli on the New Jersey ballot, the “letter of the law” was conveniently superseded by the voters' “right” to have a viable Democrat candidate on the ballot, something they hadn't lost! - Ed.

‘Drinking Rooms’ Proposed for Teens

Underage safe drinking centres or "wet rooms" modelled on the principles of the Kings Cross heroin injecting room were proposed at this week's NSW alcohol summit.

--Sydney Daily Telegraph--

It wasn't too long ago that there were smoking rooms for students in schools. That was a screwy idea dreamed up by the same idiotic “bleeding-heart liberal” mentality that came up with this one. - Ed.

Diana and Dodi Inquests Will be Held in Britain

Six years after the Paris crash in which Diana, Princess of Wales and her companion Dodi Fayed were killed it has been confirmed that British inquests will be held into their deaths.

--London Telegraph--

I have always suspected that a contributing factor in these deaths was the government-mandated airbag. One significant danger of these devices is that a small crash will set them off, disabling the driver and causing him to lose control of the vehicle. In the Diana crash, witnesses said that the car initially struck a pillar with a glancing blow, and then went out of control. This seems to me to be consistent with the scenario I just described, particularly since the driver was an experienced professional who should have been able to maintain control after a small crash. I wonder if the media will play this angle up if it turns out to be a possible factor. - Ed.

“Liberals” Assail Bush Pick for Federal Court in D.C.

Two influential liberal interest groups yesterday said it would be “disastrous” if the Senate approved a black female judge from California who President Bush nominated in July to serve on the federal circuit court of appeals here in Washington.

--Washington Times--

“Disastrous” to whom or what? To their demagoguery, perhaps? The worst think that could happen to them would be for blacks to figure out that they don't need “liberals” for their own success. - Ed.

Baltimore Democrat Seeks to Lower Voting Age

BALTIMORE - A city lawmaker says she will help 16-year-olds secure the right to vote, a plan that would make the teens the youngest voters in the nation and increase the number of registered voters in the Democratic Party.

Monument Advocates March on Attorney General's Office

MONTGOMERY, Ala. - Protesters hoping to keep a Ten Commandments monument in the Alabama Judicial Building marched to Attorney General Bill Pryor's office Tuesday, demanding he resign for abiding by a federal court order for the marker's removal.

--Sarasota Herald-Tribune (AP)--

I'm suspicious of all these other officials jumping on the bandwagon calling for Judge Moore to remove the Ten Commandments monument. Keep in mind that Attorney General Bill Pryor is currently the subject of an unconstittutional filibuster by senate Democrats. What I suspect is that these people, who probably all would like to rise to the federal bench someday, are looking to the future, and see that a stand, such as the one Judge Moore is taking, is certain to raise the hackles of the left to the point that no strategy would be too low to employ to block their elevation. - Ed.

Skyrocketing Pump Prices Threaten Recovery

In a development that could stall economic recovery in the U.S., gasoline prices exploded in a 24-hour period starting Thursday morning, rising by as much 25 cents a gallon in some parts of the country.

Has anyone witnessed Chuckie Schumer running to a TV camera to demand an investigation? His silence on the issue should arouse suspicions, since he hardly ever misses a chance for face time. Justice Moore Suspended

A judicial “ethics” panel suspended Chief Justice Roy Moore yesterday for refusing to remove his Ten Commandments monument from the Alabama Judicial Building rotunda in compliance with a court order.

--WorldNetDaily.com--

This raises an interesting comparison. In California, a governor is being subject to a recall election, which is as good an example of democracy in action as you can get. Contrast that situation to this one, where an elected chief justice is suspended by a dicatorial “panel.” You have already witnessed the left decrying the democratic recall as “undemocratic.” You can count on them applauding this tyrannical suspension of a duly elected official. The rank hypocrisy is astounding. - Ed.

ELF Claims Responsibility for Torching SoCal Car, SUV Dealerships

Fires destroyed dozens of SUVs and a warehouse at an auto dealership Friday, and vehicles there and at three other dealerships were spray-painted with slogans such as “Fat, Lazy Americans.”

--San Diego Union-Tribune--

Driving an SUV is “immoral,” according to the left. They may decry “imposing morality,” but only when it's someone else's morality that's being “imposed.” If it were abortion clinics being torched, rather than car dealerships, this would be headline news in the leftist media. But the fact is that the left sympathizes with these terrorists. - Ed.

Pres. Bush could also make recess appointments of the three federal judges presently the targets of an unconstitutional filibuster led by our own senator, Chuckie Schumer. If he doesn't, I'd like to assume that there's a grand strategy afoot - perhaps the Republicans are waiting for the campaign season to begin forcing the Democrats to hold a real filibuster. That might be a good strategy because this time around, there are more Democrat-held senate seats up for grabs. Make them choose between campaigning and standing on the Senate floor spouting nonsense twenty four hours per day. The down side is we need the federal judges now! - Ed.

Democrats “Reinterpreting the Constitution” on Nominations

CAPITOL HILL - Senate Democrats have stressed President Bush''s refusal to acknowledge their “constitutional role” in the nominations process as part of the reason most of the senators in their party are filibustering three of his judicial nominees. ‘Watchdog’ Reveals Effort to Gag Anti-Bush Causes

The Bush administration is actively seeking to gag or punish social service organizations that challenge the party line on such matters as health care for poor children and HIV prevention, according to a new report.

--Village Voice--

Judging from the almost hysterical tone of this story, you might think this has never heppened before, or that it is inappropriate, unconstitutional or worse. But you have to read between the lines to get to the meat of it.

For instance, it complains about objections to a “Stop AIDS” program that promoted sexual promiscuity. It claims that the objectional material is funded by other sources, but when you give money to such an organization and ‘earmark’ it for one purpose, it frees up money that would have been used for that purpose, and allows it to be used for other, possibly objectionable purposes.

Here's and example of what I mean. Suppose you have a brother who has children and a drug habit. Your sibling spends so much money on drugs that his children barely have enough to eat. If you give him money to feed his children (or take food to his house), he is almost certain to take the money he was previously using to feed his children and use it to buy more drugs. - Ed.
