Local Activist Declares Write-in Candidacy for Assembly (Oct. 31, 2004)

Poughkeepsie anti-abortion warrior, Helen Westover, has declared herself to be a write-in candidate for the 102nd District Assembly seat presently held by Joel Miller. In a letter to Mid-Hudson Valley Perspective, Helen wrote:

Are you sick of politicians who promise to be pro-life when they need our votes but dump us once they are in office? Do you feel that our elected officials have taken our pro-life vote for granted? Sadly, too many Republican politicians have been guilty of this.

Assemblyman Joel Miller is one such politician. He told us he was pro-life when he wanted our help to get elected and has become more pro-abortion each year in office. Now, when he meets with us, he continually supports the pro-abortion position and tells us that its power, not what's right that counts! Would you like to help us give Assemblyman Miller a lesson in power?

Many people I have talked to agree to substitute a “write in” candidate for Mr. Miller. That “write in” candidate is me, Helen Westover! So, when voting for Assemblyman on November 2, bring a pencil to write in my name, Helen Westover, at the top of the column 12 for Assemblyman. It's not hard. You must push a slide upwards to expose the write in area. HOLD IT FIRMLY as it is spring-loaded and if it closes before you write in my name, you've voted for none of the above! Write in my name and then let the slide go. It is a two handed operation. Ask one of the poll workers for help before entering the booth if you need it. Remember. It is column 12 on the ballot.

I need to get 2000+ write ins to show Mr. Miller that pro-lifers mean business in Dutchess and we are not going to take it any more! Please contact 10 more people to follow your lead to write in my name.

This could be the start of something very powerful! Lets show Mr. Miller we want pro-life representation in the assembly!
