Walter E. Williams: The military draft is confiscation of labor

Congressman Charles Rangel plans to introduce legislation calling for reinstatement of the military draft. He says, “There's no question in my mind that this president and this administration would never have invaded Iraq, especially on the flimsy evidence that was presented to the Congress, if indeed we had a draft and members of Congress and the administration thought that their kids from their communities would be placed in harm's way.”

Rachel Ehrenfeld: Carter's Arab financiers

To understand what feeds former president Jimmy Carter's anti-Israeli frenzy, look at his early links to Arab business.

Kevin McCullough: Why Iraq is a success

The nation and economy known as the new Iraq is succeeding, and those who dispute this are simply lying.

Alan Dershowitz: Why won't Carter debate his book?

YOU CAN ALWAYS tell when a public figure has written an indefensible book: when he refuses to debate it in the court of public opinion. And you can always tell when he's a hypocrite to boot: when he says he wrote a book in order to stimulate a debate, and then he refuses to participate in any such debate. I'm talking about former president Jimmy Carter and his new book “Palestine Peace Not Apartheid.”

What an idiotic blunder for President Bush to have endorsed a minimum wage increase.

Bruce Bartlett: Libertarian or libertarian (small 'l’)?

In a recent column, I discussed the disaffection of libertarians within the conservative coalition, suggesting many might be more at home on the political left. A number of readers wrote to say they agreed with my analysis and had left the Republican Party for the Libertarian Party (LP). Among these is former Georgia Republican Rep. Bob Barr, who officially joined the LP last week.

Peter LaBarbera: What’s Behind Bush’s Political Correctness on Mary Cheney?

President Bush has been put in an awful spot, thanks to Mary Cheney’s “gay parenting” activism. Ms. Cheney, a proud lesbian, is pregnant through artificial insemination and will raise her child with lesbian partner Heather Poe. The media are reporting Bush’s comment to People magazine: “I think Mary is going to be a loving soul to her child. And I’m happy for her.”

Rich Lowry: When the Media's Right

Conservatives need to realize that something is not dubious just because it's reported by the New York Times.

--National Review--

Lowry makes some good points, but misses what's really significant. The media drumbeat hasn't just been negative news, it's been negative news delivered in a way that can only be interpreted as attempting to undermine the president. The media have not delivered the message that the war needs to be won, nor that they want it to be won. Instead, they've sent a message to our enemies that we can be divided.

Michael Farris: Proof Congress Can Rein In Activist Courts

This week's Supreme Court decision overturning an outlandish ruling of the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals contains a significant encouragement for those who believe that Congress should rein in federal judges.

--WorldNetDaily.com--

I'm not sure the case cited proves anything. The 9th “Circus” Court ignored the limits congress imposed upon it, and if the Supreme Court had been of like mind, the case would have proven that congress can't rein in activist courts - unless it has the political will to impeach judges who ignore legislative mandates. - BK

What the new revelations could mean.

If the Clinton administration was spying on Diana, we can be pretty sure it had nothing to do with national security. He was probably trying to get an angle on how to get her into bed. - BK
