Some how some way we must get some money into Helen's campaign. She needs signs etc. We need to get her saturating the district. Her defeat will be more than a defeat for Helen, but also for the cause of really good government.
People that do not know her personally think she is a one issue, maybe two issue person. The woman is brilliant. She is a natural speed reader and words on a page are are like a magnet, or perhaps her eyes are the magnet. She has GOOD STRONG opinions on many subjects. She and I do not agree on everything but I do not believe that any of those issues could in any way affect my opinion of her performance as our representative in Albany.

Catholics have always been victims. We join our leader, who is Our Lord and Savior.
Our country has not changed in 230 years. Charles Caroll, signer of the Declaration of Independence, involved in government, but could never go to high office, and paid higher taxes then his fellow founders. All of that because he was a Roman Catholic.
Elizabeth Bayley Seaton, of a prominent Episcopalian family in NY City decided to become a Roman Catholic and found a school. She had to move to Maryland, which was the only Diocese in the U.S. that had a bishop. So the bishop took her under his protection and had her move to Maryland where he could protect her. She started the first Catholic school there and I believe formed what would become the model for public schools as well. She founded a Religious Order and is the first American born woman to be Canonized.
Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. was not always rich. As a young man in Boston he met with signs that said, “Irish Need Not Apply”. He beat them at their own game and settled a million dollars on each of his 9, count 'em, children because they promised not to take a drink till they were 21.
Al Smith, highly respected Democrat ran for the Presidency in 1928, the now overly honored (In my estimation) FDR gave a speech for him. A woman who was present with him after, with no one to hear but FDR supporters FDR said, “Get the ”Klan“ (as in Klu Klux) out after him”. That story was told to my old aunt by the woman that was present. She would not have repeated it except that she assumed my aunt was a democrat, which she was not. Till this day democrats, in denial, will say "Al Smith was a good man, but his voice would never go over on the National level. My response, Hogwash. Maybe today, but then neither would Lincoln.
At the time of the “No Nothings” who were extremely bigoted where Catholics were concerned. They attacked churches in NY City. But not for long. The Bishop at the time surrounded his Cathedral (then Old St. Patrick's down town) with the Ancient Order of Hibernians who were armed. The bishop went to the Mayor and informed him what was going to happen to anyone that came near his Cathedral and any of his churches.
The bad guys backed down when his moral authority was demonstrated.
When Joseph P. Kennedy's son, John Fitzgerald Kennedy decided to run for President of the U.S. he was as many were angry to be answering questions for a bunch of Religious bigots about his Faith. He told them in no uncertain terms, “I am a Catholic and that is not going to change”. I heard that with my own ears. While many Catholics now seem to have a problem with his performance but at that time no Catholic did. In fact we cheered.
Now we are attacked because we defend Life, morality, and marriage and against blasphemy. We must accept that we will be criticised and perhaps persecuted but keep on plugging and not giving an inch. We are Catholic Americans and should be proud and we have the same rights as any other American and have as much right to bring our philosophy to the market place as those that are becoming more and more Godless. If we are persecuted then we are in that good company I mentioned at the beginning of this treatise.
Sorry to be so windy but this kind of thing make me boil over.
You were right to point out this “study” was just BS. Here is the official rebuttal:

Dear Bill,
To know if the timing of the SD bill being is good timing or bad is hard for me to judge. Being human I did at first say “Three cheers for SD”. I'm thinking one state starts. If that is not correct I will leave to wiser heads.
What does concern me is a situation within the Pro-Life community that tends to scream, “Do it my way”. This does not just speak to you Bill but also your detractors.
Joan Andrews Bell the genuine heroin of the Pro-Life movement for many years, even spending a long term in jail which was an outrage since it was only a “Trespassing” charge, even into the late '90's spent 2 months away from her husband and children on an old warrant that the statute of limitations should have run out on is quoted in one of her books as saying that the Pro-Life community would have rid the US of abortion a long time ago if they could just agree on strategy.
Again the “Gotta do it my way” attitude. this attitude I have seen here in action. “Not going to work with you any more because your not doing it my way”.
In the name of LIFE I beg all to figure out what we should do and do it as the one group we should be. There are the pro death people and there are these myriad and sundry groups doing their own thing to try to counteract one united evil force.
When we are called on to have a demonstration of what ever kind, all that can possibly be there to support that should. Does not matter if today we pray and tomorrow we picket the legislature and move to the PJ to get across the massage publicly. It is also true that not everyone can come every day but those that can should support the several pronged approaches. Make the world know we are a force to be reckoned with.
No more “That is not a good way to reach people, ”Being in their faces is not helping“. Or, ”When and how I pray is my business". If there is any way what ever Pro-Life event is taking place, if you are serious BE THERE. Working people and people with health problems pray your heads off.

Patricia, I'm sorry you saw my comments as "Do it my way". That's not my intent at all. If I was "screaming" anything, it was something like "Listen to to what I (and others of like mind) have to say before you go off half-cocked."

If there's "nothing wrong with it"?
I worked for 6 years for an adoption agency in Queens; we had waiting lists for Down, spina bifida, and many other "wrong" babies. The demand for Down babies was one we couldn't fill; most of their kind are killed before birth.
I personally supervised 4 Down babies; one case was of a black woman who adopted 2; both died of heart failure in their first years. She also had a healthy Down boy who was doing very well, thank you, in grammar school.
We have to be very careful not to project our distain for the "less than perfect" onto others, who value them, and who value kids of all kinds.

I know there are couples out there every day wishing they could have a baby. Unless there is something seriously wrong with that baby, why not adopt it out? I could not live with myself to think that I had murdered another human life. It's not my place to decide who should live or die. That is up to the man upstairs.

I just don't tolerate your type. Do you believe in religion?…
…Don't you believe in protecting the unborn? Is being 100% pro-life being unreasonable?…
…Don't you believe in the Bill of Rights? Do you believe in killing of an innocent child? Only in America. We all have been called extremist because we want to protect all the pre-born. I've heard the same from others. All in the Republican party which I was a member of for 40 years. The party is no longer Pro-life. Bush was never Pro-life. Is this being uncivilized?
You know what kills me. You folks will blame the Pro-lifers or the veterans if the GOP loses control of the House, Senate, and White House.…
…You won't look within your own party. Abortion is not the only issue. I'm sure you are a lot smarter than I am and know that. Look at what's going on today. To many sheeple for me. Wake up and smell the coffee.
You started the attack by friend, by saying we need to go slowly and you question the timing of the SD Ban on abortions.…
…Just who are you?
You're nothing but a mouth piece of the GOP.
Good Luck, and please remove me from your propaganda. Your party will get everything it deserves while babies continue to be murdered and America keeps sinking deeper into the cesspool. Bush has been a disgrace!
God Bless, oops
Leo an Independent and self thinker!
PS killing abortionists is crazy. They are others ways to stop abortions. Unfortunately you won't help. You only point fingers at those who are trying to stop all abortions!
BK
Stop muddying the water. We are talking about killing innocent babies. We are not talking about homosexuals at this time. This is your second attempt to compare incrementation with something other than murdering babies! I will no longer discuss this issue with you if you insist of using the straw man approach! Please post this as well if you dare!

Congresswoman Kelly, Congressman Boehlert and Congressman Walsh Join Fellow Republicans in Support of America s Arctic Refuge and Clean Budget Bill
24 House Republicans Sign Letter Opposing Arctic Drilling
White Plains, NY Late this week, Congresswoman Kelly (NY-19), Congressman Bohelert (NY-24) and Congressman Walsh (NY-25) joined their fellow Republicans in publicly opposing any budget bill that authorizes drilling in America s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The 24 representatives composed a letter to Budget Committee Chairman Jim Nussle (IA-1), who will ultimately decide whether or not Arctic Refuge drilling is included in the budget this year. The letter specifically calls on Representative Nussle and the Committee to “promote a common Republican agenda for energy and fiscal responsibility.”
“This letter underscores that Arctic Refuge drilling is a non-starter in Congress this year. Any attempt to bend the rules and force Arctic Refuge drilling into the budget process will receive the same steadfast, bipartisan opposition that decisively rejected it last year,” said Dereth Glance, Program Director for Citizens Campaign for the Environment. “If anything, opposition to drilling has gained strength since the most recent victory for the Arctic Refuge this past December,” Glance added.
Drilling in America s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge has become an increasingly controversial issue in recent years and now acts as a “poison pill” for any legislation this ill-fated proposal is attached to. Last year, the American people and a bipartisan coalition in Congress decisively rejected Arctic Refuge drilling despite backdoor attempts to include it in both the budget bill and the defense appropriations bill.
“I applaud Representatives Kelly, Boehlert and Walsh. They all obviously understand that Americans want a clean Congress and a clean budget, not politicians who will bend the rules for Big Oil and the drilling lobby,” said Emmett Pepper of Citizens Campaign for the Environment. “Last year, the drilling boosters tried every dirty trick and every back door maneuver, but they were stopped by the American people at every turn. Now millions of Americans will be watching to make sure Congress understands the meaning of no. It s time to move on to real solutions for our country s energy needs and stop wasting time debating drilling in America s Arctic Refuge.” Pepper concluded.
Citizens Campaign for the Environment is an 80,000 member, non-profit, non-partisan, advocacy organization working to protect public health and the natural environment throughout New York State and Connecticut.
The Alaska Coalition is nearly 1,000 conservation, sporting, religious, and labor groups working together to protect our public lands in Alaska.

This would make a good cause for people to support for Thanksgiving. Would you please put this on MHV Perspective?
Linda Cebrian
Since I received the post on New Orleans directly from the source I have responded to them.
I will now tell MHVP readers the same.
Raymond Arroyo News Director/Anchor of the Eternal Word Television Network and almost life long resident of New Orleans made a statement on the news program “The World Over”, shortly after the coming of Katrina drove him with his whole family from their home, thinking it would only be for a few days and so did not take a great deal with them.
His statement was that there is much political corruption on the state and local level. There is much of what religious people would call sinning in the French Quarter and Bourbon St. The rest of New Orleans is the most Catholic City in the Country. He stated that there were more Adoration Chapels and prayer groups per capita then any other city in the country.
He has subsequently stated when queried at a Q/A at a conference that that very Catholic Community and culture, which is why he moved his family back to New Orleans in the first place is a greater loss to himself and his growing family then their house and belongings. He fears they will not get that back. That the wait will be so long that people will stay where they were displaced to. When Mr. Arroyo and his wife traveled they had there three children the youngest just two weeks old and his Mother that I am aware of. He also feels much gratitude because his EWTN family has made a place for them all to reside.

The idea that the “Catholic Church No Longer Sears By The Truth Of The Bible” is ludicrous.
Is everything literal? No. But some are. When Our Lord Said “Thou art Peter and upon this rock I will build my Church”, that you can take literally. There are some things he can “Lose on Earth will be losed in heaven”, and some things the LORD HIMSELF set in stone and can never be changed.
That is why HE left the visible head of HIS Church to interpret those that are not literal and those that are, those he can change and that God has determined unchangable.
Week after week on “The Journey Home”, aired on Monday evenings 8:00 P.M.,live on EWTN persons that moved from Church to Church every few years and finally in desperation checked out the Catholic Church. The last one they would have thought of. They found that the Church has taught the same basic things for 2000 years. As they explored the history of Christianity they realized the reason for that is that the Catholic Church teaches what Our Lord taught. These persons coming home to the fullness of Christianity realize we can not all interpret the Bible for ourselves and Our Lord did not leave us orphaned. He left HIS Vicar, now called Benedict XVI to do that for us.
Has every Pope been a perfect human being? Of course not, Peter himself was not. Neither did they promulgate error in HIS teaching.
The Bible is truth. HE has left his Vicar to help us interpret HIS WORD. The human hands were merely stenographers.

I put this in the open forum too, but I just wanted to be sure you saw it...
In your recent letter, Mr. Kriebel, you invite people to defend evolution. You also stress that evolution be approached carefully, with an open mind. It seems that the very lack of an open mind causes you skeptics to so vehemently deny evolution. You want to see things in black and white, but would you be so presumptuous as to assume God s ways are as simple as that? Those who study evolution are scientists, not theologians. Therefore, just as non-scientists shouldn't attempt to explain science, scientists don't attempt to bring God into the picture. Neither do they set out to attack the idea of creation. You've made a war where there s no fight. Is it not possible that God created evolution? That he oversees it? Put simply, evolution is the means by which living things adapt to their environment. Would God not create all life with infinite complexity and variation so that it can survive as miraculously as it does and adapt to a changing world? Evolution is not a theory, as in a speculation. Look up the word theory you'll see it also refers to a set of accepted principles. Evolution happens all around us, whether you admit it or not. It is why populations isolated on islands may eventually become new species, unable to breed with their ancestors; it is why bacteria are increasingly resistant to antibiotics; it is how farmers can develop a variety of tomato with all the desired characteristics. And God has a lot more time on his hands than farmers do.

Bill; ask why Lipton and other dogmatic evolutionists were forced to come up with "punctuated equlibrium", or something like that, when the fossil record continues to fail to demonstrate species change. Darwinism has been disproved by EVLOUTIONISTS for heaven's sakes! I often find people who fancy themselves up to date and progressive citing outdated, usually 75 year old data.

PP and Child Predators- Expanded Slightly (September 4, 2005)
This letter (below) was sent and published two weeks ago. It provides a golden, God-given opportunuity to get PP at it's most vulnerable spot: statutory rape.
Yet, there has been NO follow up from ANYONE. Not,“Gee I didn't know this about PP, how about an investigation.?” NOTHING.
So many times, I have asked for people to keep the ball going when we have a chance like this; I've even offered ghost write letters. I've NEVER been taken up on the offer.
If we let this slide, we will get the child rapists we deserve (not that the victims do, but who the hell cares about them?). We will get the PP we deserve; they will have been given a pass by those of us who make ourselves feel REALLY good when we pray at the clinic on tuesdays. It's a lot more satisfying than following through on this scandal that could sink PP permanently.
This is the fruit of thousands of dollars, and years of work by Mark Crutcher of Life Dynamics; he hands us PP on a silver platter, and we respond with a “ho hum”, instead of SEIZING this chance. What the HELL is our problem?
I am totally bummed and furious. This is the EASY way to cream PP.
But apparently, too hard for our local “activists”.
(Included letter follows:)
Like a giant squid, responding to a mortal threat by squirting black ink, Willa Frieband of MPP “responds” to my letter on mandatory reporting ofstatutory rape. She says...umm, what DID she say?O yeah, we can't tell due to all the obfuscatory ink!
Let's make this short and succinct: questions for PP - answers to be yes“ or ”no".
1. Did Planned Parenthood and the ACLU stymie State Senator Steve Saland's original bill (S.6625) in 2002 because it would force PP to report sintatutory rape? Yes or no?
2. Did Planned Parenthood and the ACLU try to again use political muscle to gut Saland's most recent bill, S477, as reported at the time by the Poughkeepsie Journal? Yes or no?
Due to current investigations of this cover-up of child rape in Kansas and Indiana by those states' Attorneys' General, did Planned Parenthood Federation of America instruct it's clinics to resist cooperation?Yes or no?
I'm trying to keep this real simple for Ms. Freiband. The next question may be a bit more complicated.
It has been documented, by PP and other organizations that among girls 15 and younger who become pregnant, between 60 to 80 percent of them were impregnated by older men.Since Willa exudes such compassion for the victims of this crime and wants us to believe that PP is somehowdoing something about it, the next question is:how many cases of suspected Statutory Rape has Mid-Hudson PP reported to the authorities in the last 10 years? There must be a record of such reports, and I challenge PP to provide it.
Your turn, Mid-Hudson PP.

Parents jailed for not seeing to it their SEVENTEEN year old was in school? At sixteen they can quit. It would appear this kid did.
Strange, some school officials told a then 16 year old that one of his options was quiting, because they did not know what to do with said child.
As for the doctor telling the woman she was obese, maybe his “bedside manner” left something to be desired but at least he was doing his job. I know a doctor that told a FIVE time survivor of Rheumatic Fever he could see no problem and no she was not getting an echocardiogram to see if the heart valves were functioning. Also passing out meds that they do not know the side effects of, and maybe complicating the problem by making symptoms worse. There are too many bad doctors and lazy ones and ones that have become 9-5, no week ends no holidays and leaving childrens doctor in charge when they are off. And this woman wants to give this doctor a hard time.

Once again, I marvel at the refusal of the Editor to print my entire letter; While I'm at it, I wonder where o where are the "follow up" letters by all the prolife activists who claim to wish the demise of PP - dead ****ed silence.
